Foreclosures

The Clay County Tax Office uses enforced collections and seeks foreclosure judgments for unpaid property taxes on real estate. This is a preliminary step to selling the property at public auction for satisfaction of the tax lien.

All property owners will be notified either by certified mail or publication as this applies.

To prevent the foreclosure process, the delinquent taxes, including interest, attorney’s fees, and any additional cost, may be paid as allowed by law. North Carolina does not sell tax lien certificates; therefore, any payment of the tax lien prior to sale at public auction will not transfer ownership of the property.
